Knowing that our father, John Everett Flanagan, was born in Fairfax, Missouri, Dick and I took a trip there in 1995 in an effort to find out more about our family history. After searching through the cemetery and asking questions around town we visited the hospital in the hopes of reviewing some of the old records. As luck would have it the lady at the information desk in the hospital was a very close friend of Daddy's first cousin, Norma (Curry) Bradfield. After getting Norma's address from her we went to Norma's house and had a very long visit.

From that visit we learned of, and about many of our relatives directly related to our Grandmother, Nancy Belle (Curry) Flanagan. We learned from her that the Curry farm, which consists of a section of land, is still in the family and has been passed down from generation to generation. That farm is now owned by Norma (Curry) Bradfield.

The English Grove cemetery where our Great Grandparents, James Fay and Barbara E. Flanagan, and James Reno and Mary Martha (McMackin) Curry along with many other Flanagan's and Curry's are buried, is located on one corner of the old Curry ranch. The town of Fairfax has a population of approximately four hundred people and when we looked in the phone book we could see that the Flanagan and Curry families are predominant.

We received an invitation to our cousin, Norma (Curry) Bradfield and her husband's fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1996, and at that anniversary we met fifty or more second, third and forth cousins. We were overwhelmed by their country-style hospitality and were very impressed after meeting all of them.

Through our research and information from those ancestors that we have known we believe that our ancestors were of Irish and Scottish descent and were farmers in Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri and Nebraska.

It is my greatest wish that the information provided herein will be interesting to each of you and useful for you and your family in their long lives ahead.

Love to you always,

Lou E. (Flanagan) Thurman
